Gelatin – the missing ingredient

It is not uncommon for me to hear things like “You know what Sharyn, I think that gelatin might be working…… My knees don’t hurt so much or my back doesn’t ache, or I seem to have more flexibility”.  They then immediately follow that up with “but it can’t be the gelatin, because I have only been on it for 2 weeks.  It must be something else or I must be imagining it……”

These comments are interesting to me for a number of reasons.

  1. People can’t believe they are feeling better – my question is why? Do people continually expect to feel bad? Never see any changes, regardless of what they take?
  2. People can’t believe it could be so simple – Why? Have we been trained over time to think that it must be hard or it will never get any better?
  3. People can’t believe that they are getting results from one product. Why? Have we all finally succumbed to society and the media hype that we need to take 5 or more products to get the same effects?

I am not saying gelatin will cure all ill’s.  What I am saying is let’s replace some key factors that play a role in helping reduce inflammation and joint pain.

  • Collagen – for strong skin, hair, nails, bones, cartilage, ligaments, tissues
  • Glycine – for creating new muscle tissue, increasing muscle mass and repairing     damaged muscles.
  • Proline – for the production of collagen and cartilage.  It keeps muscles and joints flexible
  • Alanine – for converting glucose into energy, eliminating excess toxins from the liver and protecting cells from damage during high impact exercise.
